ACCOUNTANT: PROPERTY, PLANT & EQUIPMENT

Reporting to: Senior Accountant, Africa Business Unit
Location: Shared Business Centre, Dar es Salaam
Employment Terms: Unspecified Period (Permanent)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day accounting: responsibilities associated with property plant and equipment, : environmental rehabilitation and accounts receivable balances. The main n 1 areas for which the person will be responsible is as follow:

BALANCE SHEET:
Property, plant and equipment - all classes at cost
Property, plant and equipment - all classes accumulated depreciation 1 - Asset retirement obligations assets
Asset retirement obligations liabilities
Accounts receivable balances, excluding gold receivables

INCOME STATEMENT:
- Depreciation charges
- Property, plant and equipment write- downs
- Property, plant and equipment gains or losses on disposal
- Accretion expenses

KEY FOCUS AREAS:
- Accounting function on mine site level
Dedicated to a specific allocated mine site
Coordination with site accountants
Monthly Corporate reporting
He/she will report into the Senior Accountant. The role will _: communicating and liaising with a small team of site accountants.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare a monthly reconciliation of the property, plant and equipment
: account, on a cost and depreciation level. The detailed reconciliation is
: to be performed by the site property, plant and equipment controller.
: • Review the reconciliation prepared by the site PPE controller.
: • Prepare the property, plant and equipment roll on a monthly basis.
: • Updating of monthly reserve base for calculation of depreciation charge : • Perform monthly recording of the depreciation charge, based on the
• Kecording the costrtan accumulated depreciation portions relating to the disposal or write down of property, plant and equipment.
• Take responsibility for the recording of the gain or loss on the disposal and write down of property, plant and equipment.
• Review of the AFE register for project closure.
• Perform monthly reconciliation between the AFE register and the PPE roll.
• Recording of insurance claims receivable.
• Take the responsibility to drive the annual depreciable life review.
• Perform monthly recording of the deferred strip model and the capitalisation of deferred stripping costs, as well as the depreciation charge on the deferred stripping balances.
• Perform monthly recording of the underground development model.
• Perform monthly recording of the accretion entry.
• Perform recording of quarterly adjustments to the PER liability/ asset.
• Perform monthly reconciliation of back charge accounts.
• Perform monthly reconciliation of staff related accounts' - advances, loans and insurance.
• Prepare the reconciliation of the prepaid operating lease accounts, relating to land and the power lines on a monthly basis.
• Prepare schedules and recondle the village housing loan and asset acoounts.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES. RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish an open line of communication with the site accounting team, and facilitate effective issue resolution.
Weekly consultation with the Senior Accountant regarding issues identified.
Pro- active issue resolution and procedures.
Ensure continuous communication with the site PPE controller, and follow up on reconciliation differences on a continuous basis. Communicate with site payroll department and ensure that all required documentation for advances; loans and medical insurance claims from employees are received as they are granted or received. Communicate with Johannesburg payroll department and identify any documents still outstanding from site payroll in order to load deductions etc relating to advances and other receivables from employees.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Accounting qualification required
• Familiarity with US GAAP and IFRS and SOX
• At least 3 years experience in a similar role
• Experience with property, plant and equipment in a mine environment will be advantageous
• Experience in environmental rehabilitation accounting will be advantageous
• Mining experience desirable, but not required
• Must be organized and detail oriented, but also be able to step back and think strategically
• Must have excellent written and presentation skills.
• Exposure to global multination, preferably with a matrix structure Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
• Work requires willingness to travel
